Since 1873 Viareggio Carnival belongs to one of the most important cultural events in Tuscany. It takes place during three weekends and on one Tuesday – Shrove Tuesday.

Carnival of Viareggio is a great fun not only for the little ones, but also for adults Main characters of the carnival are huge doll caricatures of famous political, cultural and showbiz personalities. The entire carnival season is accompanied by street balls with music and colourful mask costumes.

In 2017 the parades will take place on 5./12./18./26. and 28 February. Come to Tuscany and enjoy this spectacular feast full of joy and colors!

Thursday – Arrival in Montecatini Terme

Check in and welcome drink at a good 3 star hotel in the heart of Tuscany. Dinner and overnight.

Friday – Florence

Today we will reach Florence. The most convenient way to arrive in Florence is by train, the journey takes only 50 minutes. Our local tour guide will be waiting for us at the station, and he will show us around this beautiful city. When in Florence, try not to miss a visit at MERCATO CENTRALE, a daily market, where you can taste and buy our local products of good quality. Dinner at the hotel.

Saturday – Siena and Certaldo

When in Tuscany you must visit Siena – Florence’s beautiful historic enemy. Also here our local guide will make sure not to miss the key attractions, like the famous “Piazza del Campo”, a shell-shaped square, where each year Palio – the world-wide known horse race takes place.
In the afternoon we will reach Certaldo – the birth place of the famous Giovanni Boccaccio. You will definitely love the very special atmosphere of this place – a place where you go back to Middle Ages. A stroll around the centre, through the streets, admiring well kept historical buildings, is highly recommended. We will also visit the old town, which can be reached by a cable car. After a quiet break at this idyllic place, we will return to our hotel for dinner.

Sunday – Viareggio

After breakfast we will arrive in Viareggio. Be led by music and join the parade dances with the big and the little ones. Enjoy an ice cream break on the beach promenade and have a look at the tempting shop windows.

In the late afternoon we will be back to Montecatini Terme. Today’s dinner at the hotel will be a typical Tuscan dinner, with specialties of our region.

Monday – Journey back home

After breakfast check out and journey back home.
