ISLANDS OF TUSCANY

Discover the nicest and breath-taking islands of Tuscany. With us you can discover the different possibilities of the islands.
From Elba to the Gorgona island, on each island you can discover a new world.

The island is separated by a 16-kilometre (10 mi) stretch of sea from the nearest point of the mainland, the promontory of Monte Argentario. Mainly mountainous, it consists almost entirely of granite, culminating in the Poggio della Pagana, which rises to 496 metres (1,627 ft).

Giglio Castello (G. Castle), is located upon a hill between two other localities and is characterized by the majestic walls of a fortress. It is divided into the quarters of Casamatta, Centro, Cisterna and Rocca and is one of the most beautiful location in Italy.

Legend has it that the Tyrrenic Venus lost her pearl necklace when she emerged from the sea. It broke into tiny splinters and this is how the islands have originated.

Gorgona is the most northern and smallest island in the Tuscan archipelago. Since 1869 it is a prision island – last of its kind in Europe – and it may be also visited by curious tourists. It is possible to organize a one – day excursion to this particular island.

• Giglio (municipality of Isola del Giglio)

• Giannutri (to the municipality of Isola del Giglio)

• Montecristo (to the municipality of Portoferraio)

• Capraia (to the municipality of Capraia Island)

• Pianosa (to the municipality of Campo nell’Elba)

Elba Island is, thanks to its biodiversity and his geological wealth, the home of the National Park of the Tuscan archipelago. A big, fish-shaped cliff connects the Apennines and the premountain areas.
